2 Samuel 18:20
And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead. And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
Joab forbade the first messenger, Ahimaaz, to carry the tidings on that day, telling him to bear tidings on another day instead. The reason for the refusal was that the king's son was dead, for Absalom had been slain. News of that death was especially painful to deliver because of the king's deep grief over his son.
