Ahimaaz pressed strongly to be allowed to carry the news to the king, and when permission was finally given he set out at once as a runner. He chose the route through the low plain country, which allowed faster travel, and by that course he passed Cushi on the way. In this manner he became the first of the two messengers to come into David's presence. His announcement was that all was well, and that the Lord had handed over those who had risen against the king. When questioned about the safety of Absalom, he turned the question aside and gave no direct answer.
