2 Samuel 19:19
And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart. And said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.
The verse is Shimei's confession when he met David as David was returning to Jerusalem after the death of Absalom. At that time God had turned the hearts of Israel to David as the heart of one man. Shimei was the man who had cursed David in David's humility and humiliation. Moved by fear for his life, he came among the first of the rebels of the rebellious party to meet David and confessed his rebellious conduct toward him.
Those who had witnessed his abuse urged David not to spare his life because he had cursed the Lord's anointed. David rebuked them and not only spared Shimei's life but mercifully forgave him. He showed he had no revengeful spirit, though he could readily have gratified such a spirit by putting the offender to death. This answer proves David was not the bloody and mischievous revengeful man Shimei had represented him to be.
