2 Samuel 19:21

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?

After Absalom died, God turned the hearts of Israel to David as the heart of one man, uniting them to desire his return as king. Shimei, who had cursed and insulted David in his humiliation, then came in fear for his life among the first of the rebels to meet David on his return to Jerusalem, and confessed his rebellious conduct. At that meeting Abishai, together with others who had witnessed Shimei's abuse, urged that Shimei's life should not be spared but that he should be put to death because he had cursed the Lord's anointed king. David rebuked those who pressed for death, and instead spared Shimei's life and mercifully forgave him, showing that he had no revengeful spirit though he could readily have gratified revenge by having the offender killed.
