2 Samuel 19:7
Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry one with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that befell thee from thy youth until now.
Joab confronted David in his mourning for Absalom and pressed him to rise, leave his grief, appear before his servants, and speak words of encouragement to them. The king's continued lamentation had dishonored the very soldiers who had risked their lives to save him and his kingdom. What should have been a day of triumph over the rebellion had been turned into a day of mourning by the king's sorrow for his rebellious son.
Joab warned with an oath that if David did not go out to his men, not one of them would remain with him through that night. Such a total desertion, he declared, would prove a worse calamity to David than all the evils that had befallen him from his youth until that time. David recognized the justice of the rebuke, rose from his mourning, and went out to meet his soldiers with words of courage and commendation.
