2 Samuel 2:22

And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

Abner urged Asahel to stop chasing him and turn aside from the pursuit. He gave the warning because he had no desire to strike Asahel down to the ground and then have to face Joab, Asahel's brother. Despite the warning, Abner killed Asahel in the fighting, and that killing created a blood feud that afterward moved Joab to murder Abner in revenge.
