2 Samuel 21:12

The taking of the bones of Saul and Jonathan from Jabesh-gilead belongs to the history of David's later life, which records the judgments that followed his great sin in the case of Uriah as the fulfillment of Nathan's denunciation. It is part of the account showing David's continued kindness to Saul's family. The chapter containing it shows that God will not tolerate oppression, even when it is practiced against people outside the household of faith. It teaches that God holds His people collectively responsible when the many allow the transgression of the few to continue.
