2 Samuel 21:19

And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Beth-lehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

Second Samuel 21 belongs to the record of victories won under David. Within that record there was again a battle with the Philistines in Gob, in which Elhanan the Bethlehemite slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite. That same chapter teaches that God holds His people collectively responsible when the many allow the sins of the few to continue unchecked.

The surrounding history also teaches that God stands opposed to oppression. That opposition is not limited to wrongs done within the covenant community. It extends even to oppression of those outside the household of faith.
