2 Samuel 23:6

But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

The verse belongs to the record of David's later history, which shows the fulfillment of Nathan's prophetic denunciation through judgments that came upon David after his transgression. The sons of Belial are the wicked, pictured as thorns that must be thrust away because they cannot be safely taken with hands or grasped without harm. In prophetic application their removal points to Christ's victory over sin and spiritual foes.

Their removal also points to the final destruction of the wicked, when they are burned with fire. This burning of the thorns is connected with Christ's final reign on David's throne.
