2 Samuel 23:7
But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place. But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.
2 Samuel 23:7 belongs to David's last recorded words in 2 Samuel 23:1-7. Those final words look forward to the victory of Christ and his kingdom over sin and spiritual foes. The men spoken of in the verse are the sons of Belial, the wicked, pictured as thorns.
They are dangerous and worthless, fit only for destruction. They are thornlike men who cannot be approached without protection, so anyone who touches them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear. No hand can safely handle them unguarded, but only with iron weapons.
They will be utterly destroyed by fire, completely burned where they lie. They are consumed in the same place where they are found, burned completely on the spot. This burning is the final destruction of the wicked.
That destruction comes when Christ takes his throne as the just ruler. In it the wicked are ultimately destroyed, utterly burned with fire, and Christ's kingdom triumphs over sin and spiritual foes.
