2 Samuel 3:14
And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines. And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul’s son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, which I espoused to me for an hundred foreskins of the Philistines.
This moment belongs to the treacherous overthrow of the throne that malice and ambition had set up for the weak and incompetent Ishbosheth. Abner had become incensed against Ishbosheth and deserted to David. He came with the offer to bring over to David all the tribes of Israel.
David accepted his proposals and dismissed him with honor to accomplish his purpose. Abner was a valiant and famed warrior, and his favorable reception excited the jealousy of Joab. Joab's hostility rested both on seeing Abner as a prospective rival and on a blood feud, because Abner had slain his brother Asahel.
