2 Samuel 3:20
So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast. So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. And David made Abner and the men that were with him a feast.
Abner came to David at Hebron after becoming incensed against the weak and incompetent Ishbosheth, deserting him with the offer to bring over to David all the tribes of Israel. David accepted Abner's proposals, received him favorably by making a feast for him and the twenty men with him, and then dismissed him with honor to accomplish his purpose of carrying out that transfer of the kingdom. That favorable reception of so valiant and famed a warrior excited the jealousy of Joab, the commander-in-chief of David's army. Joab already held a blood-feud against Abner for slaying his brother Asahel, and in Abner's coming he saw opportunity both to avenge his brother's death and to rid himself of a prospective rival.
