2 Samuel 4:2 falls within the account of internal troubles and conflicts during the establishment of David's reign. The two men named were Baanah and Rechab, captains of bands under Saul's son Ish-bosheth, sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin. The murder introduced here belongs to the political changes that left Saul's house with only Jonathan's lame son as an heir. David neither desired nor arranged those murders but openly condemned them.
