David With Bathsheba, Baby Solomon and Sonsby emmanuel_higgins

2 Samuel 5:13

And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

After he came from Hebron to Jerusalem, David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, and still more sons and daughters were born to him. Beyond those named elsewhere, including Bathsheba and Abishag, the reckoning is nine wives and ten concubines. The chapter stands among the records of God's supernatural directions and assistances to David.

That record shows that God sees all things, is everywhere, concerns Himself with the affairs of His creatures, and guides those who acknowledge Him in all their ways. The same supernatural direction and assistance is open now to those who have faith in God, ask for it, expect it, maintain spiritual intercourse with their Maker, and do not put their own wisdom, prudence, and strength in the place of God, and such faith can remove mountains. His multiplying of wives was an evil and was contrary to God's original plan of one husband and one wife.

His household illustrates the harm of polygamy, for plural marriage brings trouble to the family and curses those who practice it. His marital irregularities and sins brought much of his later political and personal trouble, with misery and great sorrow coming upon him in consequence.
