Uzzah Reaches for the Ark on the Ox Cartby KalebRosendahl

2 Samuel 6:5

And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

David and all the house of Israel were bringing the ark toward Jerusalem to David's city with music and rejoicing and great display. The air was filled with exultant shouts and songs of rejoicing, as a multitude of voices joined in melody with musical instruments. It was a scene of triumph such as Israel had not witnessed for a long time. With solemn gladness the vast procession wound its way along the hills and valleys toward the holy city.

On this occasion the ark was carried on a new cart. The joyful celebration did not make that method of transport acceptable, for the ark was to be handled according to God's commands. This was shown when Uzzah was struck dead for touching it.
