2 Samuel 7:22
Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
David had purposed to build a temple in Jerusalem to honor the abiding presence of Jehovah as Israel's King. He was told he was deprived of that privilege because he had shed blood abundantly and made great wars. In its place God assured him of favor to him, his posterity, and Israel, recalling how He had taken him from following sheep to rule Israel, had cut off his enemies, and had made him a great name.
He promised to plant Israel in their own place unmoved and unafflicted, to make David a house, to set up his seed after him, and to establish the throne of his kingdom forever. That enduring kingdom would come through his peaceable son Solomon, a man of rest who would have peace and quietness and would build a house for God's name. Though his cherished purpose was denied, David received the message with gratitude and humility, asking who he and his house were to have been brought so far.
He acknowledged God's further promise for his house for a great while to come, and renewed his covenant with God. In grateful response to the message delivered through Nathan, he praised the LORD God as great, with none like Him and no God beside Him.
