2 Samuel 7:23

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

This declaration stands within the divine communication given to David concerning Israel and the kingdom. That communication assured David of continued divine favor resting upon himself, upon his descendants after him, and upon Israel as a whole. It promised that Israel would be given a settled place of its own, and that Solomon would build a house for God. The portrayal of Israel as a people whom God redeemed for Himself belongs to this larger recounting of His watchful care over the nation.
