2 Samuel 7:28

And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

David's words are grateful acceptance after being denied the privilege of building the temple in Jerusalem. He had desired to make Jerusalem the religious center and to build a magnificent house for the ark instead of a tent. God declared that David himself would not build because he had shed blood abundantly and made great wars.

God promised instead that a son, Solomon, a man of rest, would be given peace and would build a house for God's name. In place of David building God a house, God promised to make David a house, showing favor to him, to his posterity, and to the kingdom of Israel by setting up his seed after him and establishing the throne of his kingdom forever. God also promised to appoint and plant Israel to dwell in their own place and move no more.

David received this message with gratitude, acknowledging who he was and how far God had brought him, and recognizing that God had spoken of his house for a great while to come. In this verse he affirms that the Lord God is God, that His words are true, and that He has promised this goodness to His servant. After speaking these words, David renewed his covenant with God.
