David Dedicates the Golden Shields to the LORDby emmanuel_higgins

2 Samuel 8:11

Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;

David dedicated to the Lord the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations he subdued. This took place when Israel had become a powerful kingdom and David had rest from his enemies. His victories extended his frontier eastward to the Euphrates and showed his great prosperity.

Afterward David desired to build a permanent house for God, but he was not permitted to do so because he had been a man of war and had shed much blood. The gifts placed in the sacred treasury show that giving for divine service included both permanent obligations and voluntary gifts.
