Believers know how they ought to follow Paul because he did not behave himself in a disorderly manner among them. To behave disorderly is to live in idleness. He avoided that disorder by eating no one's bread for nothing but working with labor and travail night and day so as not to be chargeable to any, on purpose to make himself an example to be followed.
That example joined diligent labor in the affairs of daily life with untiring zeal in the cause of Christ. What is therefore required is quiet, industrious work and eating one's own bread, while walking disorderly, working not at all, and being a busybody are condemned. Those waiting for Christ are taught by this not to abandon their everyday duties.
