2 Timothy 4:12

And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.

This brief word belongs to Paul's letter to Timothy, the first bishop of the church at Ephesus, written after Paul had been brought a second time before Nero to witness with his life to the faith he held. It was written while he was imprisoned in Rome during his final imprisonment there.

It stands alongside his report that Demas had forsaken him, having loved this present world, and had departed to Thessalonica, that Crescens had gone to Galatia and Titus to Dalmatia, that only Luke was with him, and that Timothy should bring Mark because he was profitable for the ministry. Tychicus had already been sent to Ephesus to fill Timothy's place there, so that Timothy would not need to stay and could leave and come to Paul. Unlike those who forsook Paul, Tychicus in going to Ephesus was carrying out a mission to a church, not abandoning him.

This record of Paul's trials through men turning from the faith is left to encourage believers passing over the same ground when those once with them as teachers deny the faith and work against the truth they once advocated. They are not to lose faith and confidence in God but to trust that the Lord will deliver from every evil work and preserve unto His heavenly kingdom.
