I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
There is no greater joy than to hear that one's children are walking in the truth. John's joy was in those he regarded as his children in the faith walking in the truth, and the faithful life of Gaius in the truth gave him this joy. Walking in the truth begins with taking a decided position for God by coming to Him in repentance.
Walking in the truth means following on to know the Lord and speaking openly about the soul's highest interest. It is abiding in Christ as the branch abides in the vine by keeping hold of His hand, trusting His wisdom, and heeding His counsels and warnings. It is not letting go, departing from Him, and persistently marking out one's own course and will. It means more than talking about the truth; it means living the truth, reaching its standard in one's own life, and helping others to reach it, and only such work has heaven's approval.
To walk in truth is to walk in the light, requiring resolve, thought, and will power in earnest endeavor to represent Christ in sweetness of character. It puts away all gloom and does not rest satisfied with merely saying one is a child of God. It means beholding Jesus and by beholding becoming changed into His likeness, with advancement and progress in spiritual attainments through forgetting what is behind, reaching forth to what is before, and constantly beholding the Pattern. Walking in the truth stands together with walking uprightly, in the way of the Lord, by faith, in the Spirit, in love, and in newness of life, and it is perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Those who so walk are strengthened and blessed by the Lord, God's name is magnified in their walking, and their life reflects rays of light to others.
