Acts 1:19
And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
The field tied to Judas's betrayal, death and burial is Aceldama, which in the local tongue means field of blood, a name known to all who dwelt at Jerusalem. After he hanged himself the cord broke and his body fell, and it was found horribly mangled at the foot of the tree.
His remains were being eaten by dogs when burial was ordered, and he was buried at once. His mangled death was a fearful sign and an early retribution upon those guilty of Jesus' blood. At the sight the crowd's mockery subsided, and many feared that retribution was already coming upon them.
The reward that came to Judas for his betrayal stands as a warning to those who follow his example when they are not given the positions of honor they expected. The same warning reaches those who do not receive the benefits they hoped for in accepting unpopular truth, and those who when provoked by reproof from the Lord resolve to be revenged. By saying and doing all they can to sow seeds of bitterness they act the part of Judas, they hurt their own souls, and they will verily receive reward with him.
