Acts 13:14

But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

Paul with Barnabas and his other companions journeyed from Perga to Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the Jewish synagogue and sat down among the gathered congregation in its own place of worship. The synagogue service included the reading of the law and the prophets.

After that reading, the rulers of the synagogue invited them to speak. There, in that Sabbath synagogue service, Paul preached Jesus as the promised Saviour and Messiah to both Jews and Gentiles. In doing so he combined home and foreign missions by carrying the word of truth to the Jews where they worshiped.

He presented not a Messiah whose work is to destroy the old dispensation, but a Messiah who came to develop the whole Jewish economy in accordance with the truth. His wide carrying of the word stood the test of interview with those who remained at home, and took the stand that Christianity and salvation are for all nations, tongues, and peoples on the earth. As the great apostle to the Gentiles preaching on the Sabbath after the ascension, his example proves that neither Christ nor His followers ever broke the Sabbath law, and that provision was made for the sacred claims of the Sabbath to be remembered and honored after Christ's death and resurrection.
