Acts 13:15

And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

On the Sabbath at Antioch in Pisidia Paul and Barnabas went into the synagogue and sat down. The synagogue service included the reading of the law and the prophets before any preaching. After that reading the rulers of the synagogue invited Paul and Barnabas and their companions to give the people a word of exhortation.

Paul accepted the invitation, stood up, beckoned with his hand, and addressed the Israelites and those who feared God, calling them to give audience. He recounted how the Lord had dealt with the Jews from deliverance from Egyptian bondage and how a Saviour from the seed of David had been promised. He preached Jesus as the Saviour of men, the promised Saviour and Messiah of prophecy foretold for Israel.

The verse shows home and foreign missions combined, in that Paul preached to the Jews in their own place of worship when given opportunity to exhort. His approach did not erect barriers by constantly thrusting upon them that they were wrong. Nor did it present a Messiah come to destroy the old dispensation, but a Messiah come to develop the whole Jewish economy in accordance with the truth.
