Acts 13:18

And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.

God patiently bore with Israel's conduct during about forty years in the wilderness.
The words belong to Paul's Sabbath address in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia to Israelites and God-fearers.
That address followed the reading of the law and the prophets, when the rulers of the synagogue invited a word of exhortation.
In it he rehearsed the history of how the Lord dealt with Israel from their deliverance from Egyptian bondage onward.
That history moved through the wilderness period toward God's promise of a Saviour from David's descendants, of the seed of David, and having traced it Paul then proclaimed Jesus as the Saviour of men, the Messiah of prophecy.
