Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
God kept His promise to Israel by raising up Jesus, of David's offspring, as Saviour. Paul delivered this message on the Sabbath in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia. The opening came after the reading of the law and the prophets, when he was invited to speak a word of exhortation. In that address he traced the Lord's dealings with the Jews from their deliverance from Egyptian bondage down to the promise of a Saviour of the seed of David. Before Jesus' coming John the Baptist had preached repentance and testified that a greater One would follow him.
Paul proclaimed that the promise is fulfilled in Jesus, the Saviour of men. He set Him forth as the promised Messiah foretold in prophecy. This Jesus is a light to the Gentiles as well as the glory of Israel. In Him Gentiles are therefore recognized as children of God.
