Acts 13:36
For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption: For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
The setting is Paul's sermon at Antioch in Pisidia, delivered on the Sabbath in the synagogue after the reading of the law and the prophets, when he was invited to speak a word of exhortation. In that sermon he traced the Lord's dealings with the Jews from the deliverance from Egyptian bondage, showed that a Saviour had been promised from the seed of David, and preached Jesus as the Saviour of men, the Messiah of prophecy, the promised Messiah to be a light to the Gentiles as well as the glory of Israel.
The meaning is that David served the people of his own generation according to God's will, then died and was buried with his ancestors, where his body underwent corruption and saw decay. That death and decay distinguish him from Jesus, whom God raised from the dead to never undergo corruption. Therefore David's words concerning God's Holy One find their fulfillment in Jesus and His resurrection, not in David himself.
