Acts 13:52

And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

The disciples are the believers in Pisidian Antioch who remained after Paul and Barnabas were expelled amid opposition, and they remained filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Left for a time without the apostles, they carried the gospel work forward themselves. Persecution neither stopped the progress of the gospel nor robbed them of spiritual joy.

The whole chapter of Acts 13:1-52 requires God's people to humble the heart before God, to seek the Lord most earnestly, and to study the light given in the book of Acts. Being filled with joy and the Holy Ghost is the result of that humbling of the heart and earnest seeking of the Lord, and it is the standard God requires, for the Lord will not encourage false theories and a low standard.

That filling with the Holy Spirit refines, enlightens, sanctifies, and purifies from dross. It reveals the glory of God. It brings decided change with conversion and reformation in every line of work, and it brings wonderful victories.
