Paul Teaches Lydia by the Riverby KandD

Acts 16:15

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

This verse belongs to the advance of the gospel from Asia Minor into Europe, prepared at Troas on the Mediterranean coast when Paul received a night vision of a man from Macedonia pleading for help. It took place at Philippi, a leading city of that part of Macedonia and a colony, after Paul with Silas, Timothy and Luke became assured the Lord had called them to preach there. From Troas they sailed directly to Samothrace, then to Neapolis, then to Philippi.

At Philippi on the Sabbath, outside the city by a riverside set apart for prayer where women had gathered, Lydia of Thyatira, a seller of purple who worshiped God, heard the gospel from the apostles. The Lord opened Lydia's heart so that she gladly received the truth with an open heart. She and her household were converted and baptized together.

After the baptism she earnestly asked the apostles to come to her house and make it their home during their stay.
