Acts 20:38
Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship. Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
The elders' deepest sorrow came from Paul's words that they would see his face no more. Paul and the believers were bound to each other by deep affection. He had cared deeply for them and had worked with zeal for them and for their church. They understood they would no longer have his help. They wept over the separation, and their weeping went on even as he was leaving.
They threw their arms around him and kissed him. Their grief in that final parting stirred his own heart as well. They went with him to the ship as he departed. They made that walk with anxious hearts.
