Paul Preaches as Eutychus Sleeps in the Windowby KandD

Acts 20:8

And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.

The gathering described was in an upper chamber located on the third story. It took place on the last evening of Paul's seven-day stay at Troas. Many people had assembled because Paul was about to leave, a larger-than-usual company having come together to break bread as their teacher was about to depart.

The upper room was the coolest and most pleasant place for such a gathering on that warm spring evening. The room was brightly lit with many lamps, while outside the night was dark. Paul preached there until midnight, and, impressed with coming perils and uncertain of meeting them again, he spoke with earnest love and solicitude.
