Paul Preaches as Eutychus Sleeps in the Windowby KandD

Acts 20:9

And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.

The gathering took place on the last evening of a seven-day stay at Troas, when a larger company than usual assembled in an upper room on the third story. It was a warm spring evening after dark, and that upper chamber was the coolest and most pleasant place, with many lights burning in the night. The shutters of the windows had been thrown open to the air. Paul continued preaching until midnight because his mind was impressed with the perils awaiting him and the uncertainty of ever meeting the brethren again, and because he had matter of great interest and importance to present to them in earnest love and solicitude for them.

A youth named Eutychus had taken his seat on the broad sill of the open window, a dangerous and perilous position. There he sank into a deep sleep and fell from his seat down into the court below, breaking off the discourse. He was taken up dead, lifted lifeless amid alarm and confusion with cries and mourning.
