Acts 22:10

And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

After the risen Jesus revealed himself to Saul on the road to Damascus, Saul asked what he should do and what was required of him. The Lord told him to arise and go on into Damascus, where he would be told and would learn all things appointed for him to do and receive further instruction. This marks the change from Saul's former mission of persecuting Jesus' followers to submission to the Lord's direction and to the work appointed for him.

Paul's later work among the Gentiles, taking the message far away to them, was not his own choice but followed God's direction, for God spoke to him in a holy vision and directed him to go to them. Following this conversion and direction, he preached Jesus as the Son of God. Asking the Lord for direction about what to do is a model for young people considering how to serve God, and whatever their calling they should prepare for service by diligently developing their abilities and gaining knowledge.
