Acts 23:20
And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly. And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
The verse records the request made to the Roman commander to bring Paul down to the council on the next day as though to inquire more fully concerning him. That plea for further questioning was only a pretense, concealing a plan to ambush Paul on the way and kill him. More than forty men were lying in wait for him, bound by an oath not to eat or drink until he was dead. Paul's nephew exposed the deception and gave warning of the ambush. God intervened to save Paul's life through that warning.
