Acts 25:14
And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix: And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
After Agrippa, accompanied by Bernice, had been at Caesarea with Festus for many days, Festus laid Paul's case before the king. Paul was still held as a prisoner in Roman custody at Caesarea, left in bonds there when Felix left office. At that time the Jewish chief priests and elders were seeking a judgment against Paul. The delay reflects a legal practice in which an accused person could be kept imprisoned while prosecutors postponed bringing charges, and Paul's enemies used the time in hope of influencing the emperor.
The delay in securing a ship for Paul and in dealing with the other prisoners gave Paul an opportunity to present the reasons for his faith before Agrippa and the leading men of Caesarea. Because Agrippa knew Jewish law and customs, he became interested in Paul's case and asked to hear Paul himself. Paul's experience in chains, ending in a criminal's death under Nero, shows that faith in God's word can withstand human power used in support of evil.
