Acts 27:33
And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing. Paul was traveling as a prisoner to Italy on his way to Rome under the guard of Julius, a centurion, with Aristarchus accompanying him aboard a ship from Adramyttium. The voyage was perilous, marked by storm and danger at sea, and the appeal to eat came as daylight was approaching after fourteen days.
After fourteen days of waiting and continuing through the storm without taking food, having taken nothing, Paul urged everyone aboard the ship to eat. He presented eating as necessary for health and for preserving strength, encouraging care for physical needs in the crisis. He assured everyone aboard that none of them would be lost.
After he gave thanks and began the meal himself, the group took courage and ate. There were 276 people aboard, and afterward they threw the wheat cargo overboard because it could not be saved. In looking after the passengers and urging them to eat, Paul showed practical concern, courage, composure, and courtesy in danger. The voyage served God's purpose, as the crew witnessed God's power through Paul and others heard about Jesus, with some converted through his teaching and the miracles they saw.
