Acts 27:39
And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship. And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, into the which they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
The moment came in daylight, at break of day after the storm had passed. The vessel had reached land after the storm, and Paul was among those who survived. At that hour only the dim outlines of the stormy coast could be made out, with no familiar landmarks to go by.
The sailors and crew could not recognize or identify the land before them. They discovered a creek with a shore, and formed the mind and hope, if it were possible, to drive and bring the ship into it.
The outlook was so gloomy that the heathen sailors lost all courage. The sea journey itself served God's purpose, so that the crew and others aboard would witness God's power through Paul and hear about Jesus. The episode displays Paul's courage, hope, and helpfulness in danger, for though a prisoner he took charge in the crisis and helped preserve the lives of all those aboard.
