Acts 7:11

Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

This dearth statement belongs to Stephen's preaching of Christ drawn from the Old Testament Scriptures beginning with Moses and the prophets. Like Christ opening the Scriptures to His disciples, and like Peter's preaching and Paul's reasoning, his speech gives inspired proof concerning the mission, suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. Through the testimony of Moses and the prophets it proves the identity of Jesus as the Messiah. It shows that it was the voice of Christ that spoke through the prophets and patriarchs from the days of Adam even to that time.
