Acts 7:45
Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;
Acts 7:45 belongs to Stephen's defense that traced Israel's history from Abraham through Solomon. That survey was his answer in defending himself before his accusers. Through it he set forth the spiritual meaning of Israel's history through Christ.
The verse thus forms part of the Old Testament testimony showing that the Scriptures point to Christ. Christ is the key that unlocks the Old Testament and its religious ceremonies, which have no value without accepting him. In this defense Stephen presented the evidences from prophecy that the crucified Jesus is the Son of God. He died to vindicate that truth, which Paul afterward fearlessly proclaimed in the same synagogue where he had once disputed with Stephen.
