Acts 8:25
And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
This verse belongs to the spread of the gospel in Samaria after Stephen's death, when persecution scattered believers from Jerusalem throughout Judea and Samaria. After testifying and preaching the word of the Lord, they returned toward Jerusalem while preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans, and next Philip was sent south to the desert road to Gaza to meet the Ethiopian eunuch who had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning reading Esaias. That preaching in the Samaritan villages was Spirit-led work to enlighten souls and convert them to the truth. It shows that God has made personal communication necessary for learning heavenly things, since the Word cannot be understood by reading alone without a human guide, as seen when Philip was directed to join the chariot and teach the eunuch. This going from place to place exemplifies the work God calls His people to do for neglected people who are reading the Scriptures without understanding and need those who know God to explain His Word to them.
Gospel work is to be done by spreading out into many places rather than centering workers in a few places already worked. The example of testifying and preaching from place to place is to be carefully studied as the pattern for entering unworked cities, with experienced workers dividing and subdividing to work several cities at once by beginning in one city and then dividing to enter the next. In that pattern small schools are to be established where new workers are trained on the field, and the truth is to be scattered so that it becomes a converting power that raises up thousands who will then work for other souls.
