Acts 9:35

And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

Peter visited the saints or believers at Lydda in the course of his carrying on his work. There at Lydda he healed Aeneas, who had been confined to bed and bedridden with palsy for eight years. The same healing at Lydda is the setting in which the people of Lydda and Saron saw what had happened. Peter declared that Jesus Christ made him whole and told him to arise and make his bed, and he arose immediately through Christ's power with an immediate cure. All who dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw the healed man and the healing and turned to the Lord.

The news of Peter's marvelous cures at Lydda reached nearby Joppa at the time Tabitha, by interpretation Dorcas, lay dead to the great loss of the infant church. She was a worthy disciple of Jesus Christ characterized by charity and kindness to the poor and sorrowful and by zeal in the cause of truth. Hearing of the cures made the believers greatly desire Peter to come to Joppa, so they sent messengers to ask for his presence.
