Amos 2:11
And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD. And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD.
God raised up from Israel's own sons young men to serve as prophets, providing the nation with spiritual leaders. Through them He made His counsel known, giving Israel gracious guidance by instruments of divine revelation raised from among its own people. Alongside them He raised up young men to be Nazarites, persons set apart to serve Him.
Both appointments were a divine privilege marking Israel as a people specially guided by God. That privilege laid upon them the responsibility to live according to the light and knowledge given to them. Failure to do so brought punishment upon them.
