Amos 2:14

Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

When judgment falls upon Israel, no human ability will secure escape. Swiftness will be of no avail, for the swift will be unable to flee. Strength will fail, for the strong will be unable to muster and strengthen their force. Might will likewise fail, for the mighty will be unable to deliver themselves.

The himself whom the mighty man cannot deliver is his soul. Here soul means the whole person, not a separate part of him. The Hebrew nephesh can thus mean a person and can be rendered by a personal pronoun, rather than denoting an immortal part distinct from the person.
