Amos 3:5
Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all? Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?
Trapping provides two illustrations that happenings do not occur without reasons, since a bird is not ensnared on the ground where no device has been placed for it. Likewise a snare is not taken up from the earth unless it has actually secured something. Together these pictures establish the principle that effects follow causes rather than arising by chance. In its setting this principle points to the coming judgment upon Israel as no accident, but as following the Lord's warning and His response to the iniquity of the people.
