Amos 3:6
Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
When a warning blast is sounded openly in a town, the inhabitants are seized with fear because they understand that danger is at hand. When disaster falls upon a town, it is not accidental but is brought by the Lord himself as an act of judgment. This belongs to God's declared purpose to visit unrepentant Israel with punishment for its iniquities. That announced judgment lays a compulsion upon the prophet to speak out, and it calls the people to recognize the peril in which they stand.
