Amos 4:4
Come to Beth-el, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years: Come to Beth-el, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:
The command to go to Bethel and Gilgal and keep on sinning is spoken in cutting irony, with God telling domineering oppressors who lord it over His heritage to continue in transgression. Those so addressed are not heathen outsiders but His own professed people. Their persistent indulgence in wrongdoing has blinded their understanding and hardened their hearts against justice and mercy. Though given every temporal and spiritual advantage, they have not answered mercy and love, have neglected warnings, and have abused the means of grace long held out to them.
For that reason He cannot manifest Himself to them but must leave them to strong delusions as their just punishment. Their mingling of sacrifice to Him with sacrifice to idols affronts His name, so in abhorrence He bids them go after their beloved idols and bear the consequence of their perversity. While they condemn the worship of idols of wood and stone, they practice idolatry daily by following their own devices and walking in their own ways, exalting self and dishonoring the God of heaven.
