Amos 5:11

Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

The trampling denounced is the crushing of the poor by those who exact grain from them in order to enrich themselves. Getting rich in that way impoverishes the oppressor himself. Those who do so will build fine houses of cut stone yet never live in them, and will plant desirable vineyards yet never drink their wine. Departure from right principles in dealing with others turns apparent gain into actual loss.

The verse belongs to a passage, Amos 5:11-20, that describes the condition of the world just before the second coming. That condition is one of widespread iniquity. The iniquity results from transgressing God's law and breaking the everlasting covenant.
