Amos 5:15

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

The call is directed to Israel to hate evil, love good, and establish judgment in the gate. The gate is public life, the place where cases were judged and where justice was to be upheld. Hating evil and loving good in this way is turning back to God. That turning carries the hope, held out as a may-be, that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. As part of Amos 5:11-20, the call belongs among prophecies describing the condition of the world just before the second coming, when iniquity abounds because men transgress God's law and break the everlasting covenant.
