Amos 5:19

As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

Amos 5:19 is part of a prophecy describing the sinful condition of the world before the Lord's second coming. It portrays the danger that confronts those who flee from one peril only to meet another still more inescapable. That successive calamity is the judgment that follows continued disobedience in transgressing God's law. By such persistent disobedience the everlasting covenant is broken, and the threatened retribution becomes certain.
